Today I was lucky I got the wind and the tide with me for most of the day and probably covered more ground today the any of the previous days maybe 30kms. I was even lucky enough to have a bit of cloud cover as welll. YEOW! This combined with An Giang university cancelling my talk has put me ahead of schedule. As my next confirmed stop is a press conference at one of the biggest Mekong towns Can Tho on the 21st where I paddle into a riverside restaurant to greet the awaiting journalists. This should be exciting, I will fill you i more on that on Saturday. Anyway back to todays highlights. I seemed to surrounded by lots of boats and heavy machinery today. The first part of the paddle was a area that seemed dedicated to logging with lots of barges with huge cranes moving massive logs from boats to other boats or sometimes to the shore. Lots of these boats had "Safety First" written on them in big writing. Which sounds good in practice, but the teenage looking guys guiding the logs on to their landing place didn't look to be in the safest of situations. The noise today seemed to be non stop with all sorts of boats passing in all directions, all day. When I did get a chance to relax I would be aggravated how many bloody instant noodle packs that I see in the water, if I had a $1 for every noodle pack in that river I have seen, I would never need to work a day again. The other thing that concerned me today was the about of baby nappy/diapers I saw. This must be a richer area of Vietnam because it is pretty uncommon to see babies in Asian wearing nappies. These thing swell up in to soccer ball size when discarded into the water, yuk!! So basically as I head towards the sea the scenery is changing a lot and so is what is floating in the water. This afternoon it rained quite hard here for a while so a lot of stuff would have been flushed into the river so lets what is awaiting me tomorrow.
